Money Awareness

In this lesson, pupils develop an understanding of how digital money is used and how to make safe, informed choices when spending online. They learn how digital payments work and explore what can go wrong, including scams and unexpected subscriptions. Through practical scenarios, pupils practise spotting unsafe situations and explaining their reasoning. The lesson reinforces that digital money is real money and supports pupils to recognise and avoid online risks.

PSHE:

This lesson supports the Year 1 National Curriculum for Mathematics in Number and Place Value by enabling pupils to understand money as a representation of numerical value, including digital forms. Pupils apply place value knowledge when recognising amounts in pounds and pence and develop understanding that digital transactions represent real numerical quantities being transferred.

This lesson supports PSHE Economic Wellbeing objectives L10, L11 and L13, alongside Health and Wellbeing objective H3, by helping pupils understand how digital money is used, recognise risks such as scams and repeated subscriptions, develop safe decision making online, and identify when to seek support from a trusted adult to protect their money and personal information.
