Wealth Creation
Pupils explore how people and organisations can grow money over time through investing. Using the example of LEGO, children learn that investing means spending money now in the hope of growing it later, but that this always involves risk. They examine the difference between opportunities and risks, and consider how businesses make decisions about growth. Through discussion and group work, pupils develop an understanding that investing can help money grow, but outcomes are not guaranteed.

PSHE:
This lesson supports the Year 1 National Curriculum for Mathematics M6 by applying mathematical understanding to real life contexts involving growth, comparison and scale. Pupils reason about how money can increase over time, consider numerical information related to production and growth, and use logical reasoning when discussing risk, opportunity and financial outcomes.
This lesson supports PSHE Economic Wellbeing objectives L22, L11 and L18 by helping pupils understand that investing involves risk as well as opportunity, recognise that financial growth often requires planning and decision making, and develop awareness of how organisations use money responsibly to create future benefits.
