In this lesson, pupils explore how to keep money safe and make careful spending choices. They practise deciding when to spend, when to stop and think, and when not to spend at all. Pupils learn that money can be lost or spent unwisely, even when people try to be sensible, and consider common situations where this can happen. Through discussion and problem solving activities, children develop simple strategies to protect their money and make more thoughtful spending decisions.

PSHE:
This lesson supports the Year 1 National Curriculum for Mathematics by enabling pupils to solve simple problems involving money, reason about quantities and possible outcomes when spending a fixed amount, and explain their choices using appropriate mathematical language. Pupils compare options, consider value and justify decisions based on cost and consequence.
This lesson supports PSHE objectives L22, L13, L18 and H29 or H38 by helping pupils recognise financial risk, understand how money can be lost or spent unwisely, develop strategies to keep money safe, and make careful, responsible decisions that protect their wellbeing and financial security.
