In this lesson students will explore how everyday money decisions shape their financial future by working through the budgets of three young people with very different habits. They will track income and spending, see how inflation changes real costs, decide which type of bank account suits each situation, and understand how credit scores influence access to borrowing. They will also investigate common consumer issues such as faulty services or missing deliveries and learn what rights protect them. By the end students build practical confidence in managing money and making choices that keep their finances healthy.

PSHE:
This lesson supports the National Curriculum for Mathematics by enabling pupils to use number in real life financial contexts, including calculating surplus and deficit, applying simple percentage increases such as inflation, and determining loan repayments with interest. Pupils interpret numerical information in budgets and financial tables, compare options and justify decisions using percentage and proportional reasoning.
This lesson supports PSHE Living in the Wider World objectives LWW4 and LWW5 by helping pupils understand different ways to keep track of money, including budgeting and monitoring income and expenditure, and explore different forms of financial transaction such as current accounts, savings accounts and credit cards. Pupils evaluate financial products, consider the impact of inflation and credit scores on decision making, and develop practical strategies to manage money responsibly and reduce financial risk.
