In this lesson, students explore the idea that money decisions are influenced by different “voices” in their minds: freedom, responsibility, ethics and consequences. Through scenarios and writing challenges, they learn how these perspectives pull in different directions and why good financial choices come from balancing them rather than letting one take over. The lesson helps students think more deeply about fairness, future impact and the real-world outcomes of everyday spending.
PSHE:
This lesson supports PSHE Living in the Wider World objectives LWW8 and LWW9 by helping pupils understand what makes a financial decision ethical and sustainable, and explore how personal money choices can impact individuals, families, communities and the wider environment. Pupils evaluate the balance between freedom and responsibility, consider long term consequences of spending decisions, and reflect on how values such as fairness, accountability and sustainability shape ethical financial behaviour.
