In this lesson students will learn how a budget can fall apart when borrowing, scams, impulse spending, or emotional choices take over. Mike Tyson’s life story shows how rapid success, poor decisions, and the wrong influences can turn huge earnings into overwhelming debt. Students will reflect on how to spot risk, avoid financial traps, and stay grounded in the values that guide their own money choices.

PSHE:

This lesson supports PSHE Living in the Wider World objective LWW7 by helping pupils understand the risks associated with gambling style behaviours, poor money management, borrowing and accumulating debt. Pupils explore how impulse buying, emotional decision making and scams can destabilise a budget, and develop practical strategies to manage financial risk, including pausing before spending, budgeting, seeking trustworthy advice and planning for long term stability. The lesson also promotes resilience by recognising that financial mistakes can be addressed through reflection, discipline and improved decision making.
