Money Awareness

In this lesson, pupils develop money awareness by exploring how we use money to pay for things in shops and online. They learn that items have prices and that paying involves checking carefully, counting accurately, and making sure the correct amount is given. Through discussion and practical scenarios, children begin to understand the importance of fairness, accuracy, and staying safe when handling money in different situations.

PSHE:

This lesson supports the Year 1 National Curriculum for Mathematics by enabling pupils to recognise and use symbols for pounds (£) and pence (p), combine amounts to make a particular value, and solve simple problems involving money in real life contexts such as paying in shops and online. Pupils apply counting and checking strategies to ensure accuracy and fairness when making payments.

This lesson supports PSHE objectives L10, L11 and L17 by helping pupils understand the importance of making safe and responsible choices when using money, recognising fairness and honesty in transactions, and identifying steps that protect themselves and others when paying in different contexts.
