Budgeting
In this lesson, pupils are introduced to the idea of budgeting by learning how to choose what to buy when money is limited. Through simple shopping scenarios, they explore how prices add up and why they cannot always afford everything at once. Children practise deciding what they can buy within a set amount and begin to understand that budgeting means making sensible choices based on the money available.

PSHE:
This lesson supports the Year 1 National Curriculum for Mathematics by enabling pupils to recognise and use symbols for pounds (£) and pence (p), combine amounts to make a particular value, and solve simple problems involving money in real life contexts such as paying in shops and online. Pupils apply counting and checking strategies to ensure accuracy and fairness when making payments.
This lesson supports PSHE objectives L10, L11 and L17 by helping pupils understand the importance of making safe and responsible choices when using money, recognising fairness and honesty in transactions, and identifying steps that protect themselves and others when paying in different contexts.
