In this lesson, pupils explore the ethical side of money by considering the importance of patience, responsibility, and thoughtful decision making. Through the concept of saving, they reflect on how waiting instead of spending straight away can show self control and respect for future goals. Children begin to understand that money choices are not just about what they want now, but about making careful decisions that are fair to themselves and others in the long term.

This lesson supports the Year 1 National Curriculum for Mathematics by enabling pupils to sort and classify information about different uses of money, apply their understanding of money in real life contexts, and explain their reasoning using simple justifications when making financial choices.

This lesson supports PSHE objectives L19, L7 and L4 by helping pupils understand that money can be used in different ways to support themselves and others, recognise responsibility and contribution within a community, and reflect on how thoughtful choices promote fairness, belonging and positive relationships.
